Taking the team approach

Developing programs for Aboriginal languages requires a collaborative approach which includes community involvement, knowledge and perspectives on language and culture, together with linguistic research and language reconstruction, and effective methods for learning and teaching language. Each team member will have skills that the other team members might not be aware of.

Team roles include Aboriginal Languages teachers and other community representatives, Aboriginal Education Assistants/Workers, classroom teachers, Languages/LOTE teachers and consultants, linguists, program coordinators. Every school and community will have a unique combination of human resources to work on their Aboriginal Languages program.

Click here for a PowerPoint presentation about team roles. It was developed with input from several school-community teams from across NSW who were participants in the Term 3 Aboriginal Languages Sharing Workshop 2005 in Dubbo.
