Secondary 7-10
Peak agencies for Aboriginal education, such as the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) have long called for Aboriginal perspectives to be taught throughout the curriculum in NSW. To this end, all Years 7–10 syllabuses released since 2003 include the provision of cross-curriculum content, which includes Aboriginal and Indigenous content. The rationale for the Aboriginal and Indigenous cross-curriculum content is summarised in the following statement:
Aboriginal and Indigenous cross-curriculum content provides all students with the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of Indigenous history and culture, both in Australia and internationally. This content is critical to students developing an understanding of historical and contemporary society in Australia, and the critical issues impacting on all Australians. (Board of Studies 2002a:24)
The ultimate aim of this website is to assist teachers in delivering the Aboriginal and Indigenous cross-curriculum content embedded in all the new 7–10 syllabuses. All teaching and learning units of work have therefore been written to meet the outcomes of their particular syllabus. Currently, examples from the following Key Learning Areas can be found on this site.
