Mapping Aboriginal Perspectives and Cross-curriculum Content K-10 (PDF, 31 pages, 296 KB)This mapping lists Aboriginal and Indigenous Perspectives and Cross-curriculum Content which has been integrated in outcomes and content in all mandatory K-10 syllabuses. The list also identifies a range of current teaching and learning documents developed to support teachers implement syllabuses. These documents highlight the potential for Aboriginal and Indigenous Perspectives and Cross-curriculum Content to be successfully embedded in school-developed curriculum.
The purpose of this mapping is to assist school planning and programming by identifying the breadth of Aboriginal and Indigenous Perspectives and Cross-curriculum Content, and demonstrating that it can be taught in authentic ways that is not merely token content within each area of learning.
The Aboriginal and Indigenous Perspectives and Cross-curriculum Content is listed within this document by Stages of Learning, by KLA and course content, and/or by other specific syllabus requirement.
The Aboriginal and Indigenous Perspectives and Cross Curriculum Content have been incorporated in all mandatory courses so that students will have a continuous exposure to Aboriginal and Indigenous people’s pre- and post-colonial histories and cultures. It also provides opportunities for students to gain a deeper understanding of the shared experiences of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people within the Australian context.
It is recommended that, where possible, local Aboriginal people and community members be invited to be actively involved in the development of teaching programs that substantively includes their knowledge and experiences.
