Story 2 - Newcastle

In consultation with local Aboriginal community members, teachers in the Newcastle group used the context of earth science to develop this Stage 5 teaching-learning sequence. Aboriginal perspectives content from the Science Years 7-10 Syllabus is incorporated into this teaching-learning sequence.

Introducing Our Changing EarthStudents investigate a Dreaming story of a group of traditional Aboriginal people that explains the cause of earthquakes in the Newcastle area. They compare this explanation with those presented in the media and by scientists to analyse possible reasons for the differing views.
