Teacher Information

The Cosmos - Things in the Sky

In this part of the unit students are provided with the opportunity to extend their understanding of how Aboriginal and other Indigenous peoples' observations of phenomena were used to explain both the physical and metaphysical world.

The teaching and learning experiences in this part of the unit emphasise the importance of the knowledge contributed to our current understanding of the universe by past and present cultures, including those of Aboriginal peoples.

Our Solar System

This lesson sequence seeks to challenge the notion that the only view of the universe is the scientific one and encourages students to evaluate and respect the knowledge and ideas of other cultures. Students also investigate how Aboriginal and other Indigenous communities relied on observations of environmental changes and used these to efficiently manage their resources.
