Funding and endorsements
The main source of funding for school-based Aboriginal language programs in NSW DET schools is the Aboriginal Education and Training Directorate (AETD, formerly APU). Applications for funding and guidelines are available at the following site: http://www.aboriginaleducation.nsw.edu.au
Applications are usually due in Term 4.
One requirement when making an application is to have appropriate endorsement from your local and/or regional Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG). If there is no local AECG then the regional AECG can help provide this endorsement. If you are unsure of who to contact visit the AECG site at www.aecg.nsw.edu.au
In the Catholic system there are four main sources of funding for school-based Aboriginal Language programs:
- Indigenous Education Program funding
- individual Diocesan grants
- Diocesan general language funding
- grants from various funding bodies.
These four funding sources are in general accessed by the Diocesan Aboriginal Advisor on behalf of individual schools. The first point of call for school/community teams should be their Diocesan Aboriginal Advisor, who can advise them of the appropriate source of funding to apply for.
