Marcia:
When I went to school we were taught differently to today's curriculum.
Is that right?
Bob:
Yes.
Marcia:
Yes, I'll think about it.
It's frustrating as a parent trying to help your children with homework when you've been taught a different way.
It's easier and with the older one, he's 17 years old, that's when I realised the changes came into place and the frustration all started there.
I did actually go into a class with maths to try to help understand mainly the language of it, because ours was take away and they have all these other little names which are different.
So I have actually...
So I teach my children, Carly especially, the way that I have done it, it comes across easier for me and it seems to come across easier to her, like when teaching.
I mean, I know it's frustrating cause she'll argue but she's willing to try it my way some too.
And we say, OK then, you go to your calculator and you add it up to see to get your answer correct, sort of it.
Bob:
Yeah, yeah.
Marcia:
Yeah. That's where it's frustrating, I mean I probably need to go back ...
It's sad we have to go back and re-educate ourselves to help our children with homework.
Bob:
OK, and you get into arguments with her about what she thinks the teacher's telling her.
Marcia:
Yeah.
